Buddha 12 (70 x 90 cm, 2013)

The Fayuan is the oldest Buddhist temple of Beijing. The current buildings date from the Zhengtong Period (1436–1449) of the Ming Dynasty. The Main Hall houses three guilded statues, the middle one representing the Vairocana Buddha.

Vairocana is a celestial buddha who is often interpreted as the Bliss Body of the historical Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama). In Chinese, Korean, and Japanese Buddhism, Vairocana is also seen as the embodiment of the Buddhist concept of Emptiness.
